Monticello Raceway is home to the New York Sire Stakes - the track's premiere racing event - held each summer, with close to $1 million in purses. The only harness track in the nation that offered wagering on Christmas Eve Day, racing fans both on and off track poured $1,136,886 through the mutual windows.
Fondly called today as Mighty M, the raceway has been a major entertainment destination since it opened in 1958, with landmark races elephant races and races featuring athletes outrunning horses. It has now evolved into a video gaming center, aside from the live races feature.
